This is what has been keeping me busy this Fall...coaching! But I've managed to do some organizing too! Not quite ready to show the before and afters, but here is a peek of the pantry. With all 4 kids in activities this year, I am trying my best to keep it all together. This is what I came up with...remove a shelf, hang a calendar and a memo board, and give each child their own bin for papers. (I'm thinking these bins would be a lot cuter if they were mod-podged with some Sis Boom fabric!)

I also managed to squeeze out a silent auction donation for the Autism benefit.

I've been doing a LOT of organizing since school started. It's killing me not to able to sew right now...I just need to keep my priorities in line and make sure my kids come first. Although....I think whipping up a skirt for Taylor's birthday today should fall under the "kids come first" category, right? Just like making a bunch of headbands for three girls was definitely a priority last week!

It was also a way to use up some scraps, so it counts in the "organizing" category too!

Just back from Spring Break in Hilton Head! What a great trip with cousins and friends! Here are some Tabbo sightings! LOVE seeing my clothes on cute little girls!

Tabbo in Key West!

Tabbo skirts and sundresses spotted at the World Sailfish Championship in Key West last week! At this age, it's not always easy to agree on what to wear, but skirts on vacation are perfect. The girls like to wear them, and I'm happy because they look cute and don't say "Abercrombie"!

Bradlee, modeling the Tabbo Tie Dress. I sold these at the Trunk Show. They're great because you can swap out the tie and the sash with different colors for different looks. Or, it makes a great cover-up without the sash. Not to pat myself in the back, but I think this dress is so cute! Maybe it's the model! Here's my cute Bo...no Tabbo for him! Now we're off to Hilton Head for Spring Break! We'll be looking for more Tabbo sightings!

Trunk Show!

Finally held my first big sale last night! Fun, fun! I sold a lot (but not all!) and had a blast doing it! Lots of little girls left with big smiles, bright colored skirts, tops, headbands, and more! Thanks to everyone who came! Now I'm off to Key West for the World Sailfish Tournament and some much needed rest!

I'm hoping to get all three girls out after school to take some more, but I thought I'd go ahead and post some of these shots today. She started out great but quickly transformed into her usual silly eight-yr. old self....

Honey Child Love!

I drove to Waynesville, OH last week to pick up Sis Boom's new fabric line, Honey Child at the Fabric Shack.(whom I really can't say enough good things about!). It's just plain gorgeous and screams Spring! Wait till you see the skirts and sundresses I'm doing! Waynesville is a beautiful little town full of antique shops and has a wonderful restaurant/store called Cobblestone Village. HIGHLY recommend you eat there if you ever get to Southern Ohio...amazing food and wonderful service!

I'm working hard on inventory for my first sale and I'm trying to add a couple of bigger ticket, unique items to add a little fun. I picked up this little vintage stool in one of the tiny shops...

I didn't get a very good before pic, but you get the idea.

Then I took it apart and gave it a little Tabbo touch with some help from my new Honey Child...

This is a jacket I made a while ago with gorgeous Amy Butler home dec. fabric. Unfortunately, the design makes me look huge so I don't wear it much.

Football-player shoulders! My girls make much better models than me so I'll show you some pics of them in some headbands I did for my niece's birthday. The second one did not make it in the mail...snatched by Bradlee!


I love when they wear headbands so I'm always trying to come up with new designs. I plan to make a bunch for the trunk show. I'm working on skirts, belts, headbands, and a few bags. Hoping to have the sale in March. I've been stocking up on Sis Boom fabric for the last couple of weeks and I'm anxious to put it all together! More to come soon! Meanwhile, here's a pic of the girls before the Father/Daughter dance. My Texas roots loved the Western theme!

AND we can't forget the Birthday Boy...Bo turned six this week! Can't believe how fast he is growing!

I'm going to do a Trunk Show this Spring and I'm starting to think about what I want to have at the sale. I haven't decided where it will be yet. My sister wants me to do it at her house in Texas, which might be a good idea. I could use it as a practice run before I have a big one here at home. So now I have to work out some details. I don't want to take custom orders because I put too much pressure on myself. I'm better to just put out what I have and that's it until the next show. Hate to be limiting like that but I've learned that my time-management skills leave something to be desired when it comes to custom work!

So, I was going through my Tabbo picture files and realized that I have a lot of pictures I've never posted on here. I thought I'd share some this week. Some of these are really old...I've certainly come a long way since I started!

Winter sewing

I'm determined not to buy any fabric for the Spring until I use up some of my stash. I have some of the most gorgeous fabrics just sitting there begging to be turned into something fabulous! So, I did a couple of bags last weekend while the husband was gone. It gets harder and harder to work on projects because my kids have so many activities. I'm really trying to get things done in the mornings now and I'm determined to take more pictures. So here are some things I've actually finished lately...

I've had this gorgeous silk for a long time just waiting for some inspiration. A friend gave me the solid teal silk that matches perfectly. I made a cute little evening bag for Spring. It's lined with cream silk, has a snap closure, and the handle is a silk ruffle. I think I still have enough of this to make a pretty Spring scarf.

This is a tote I did for the girls. Someone is always headed to a sleepover and looking for an overnight bag around here! Originally, I was making this into a reversible skirt but decided the fabric would be better as a bag.

Here's the inside...it's nice and deep and has a good sized pocket.

As I was taking pictures I realized it could still be reversible. Of course the snap would be on the outside, but it's still cute for a different look!

I went down to Islamorada in the Keys for one of my husbands' fishing tournaments and I thought I needed a couple of bags for myself to take along.

I really like the size and shape of this bag but it seems a little boring. When I was in Miami I noticed a lot of women with scarves on their bags, so I made a removable bright red bow. I think it finishes it nicely.

I'm not really on a zebra kick, I just happen to have alot of it in stock. This black and white is a reversible upholstery fabric but I went ahead and lined it in a solid black. It's nice and heavy and the bottom is wide but the top is pleated to make the opening a little smaller. The leather handles give it a finished look. I love the pink ruffle going up from the bag as opposed to facing down. This will be great in the Spring!

So that's it! Besides a couple of groovy outfits I had to make for a Disco sleepover, a bunch of heat therapy bags to sell in Hubby's waiting area, a few scarves, some ruffled hearts (see below), and a skirt for the Keys trip...that's what I've been doing! Notice I got a new camera for Christmas? I'm still trying to figure it out, but I'm hoping it will make me post more often!

Christmas Cloth

My Mom would tell you that she is not "crafty", but she can't hide from it. She needlepoints, she sews (well, she USED to sew...and she taught ME how to sew!), and she has a great eye for decorating. You should see the Christmas pillows she made this year! So, back when she was newly married to my Dad, she cut out some pictures from a coloring book and traced them onto felt and then covered them with sequins. She never really new what to do with them but I remember getting the felts out at Christmas every year and loving them. Last year, she made them into a Christmas Cloth for me. She needlepointed "ornaments" for the whole family, then put the sequins felts and the ornaments on this beautiful cloth. The whole thing is gorgeous and so special to me! It is the perfect size for my dining room table!

The cloth is satin and trimmed with gold tassles.


See how the Angel, the reindeer and the tree are all sequins? Isn't it great?!?!

She made the ornaments from needlepoint and used a metallic thread so the whole thing really sparkles at night with a soft light on it.

See how she added the sailfish ornament for Bill? Love it! The little gift box is for me.

I hate to put it away!

Christmas Re-cap

We're back from a fabulous Christmas trip to Disney with my Mom, all of my sister's and their families.


Because of the cost of all of the parks, we decided to do an "H and H" Christmas. Handmade or Hand-me-down! Would have been right up my alley if I hadn't so over-extended myself with orders before we left! We gave the whole group matching red hoodies and I was able to pump out some matching Christmas boxers for the girls the night before we left.


Disney parks were sooo crowded, the red shirts ended up being great! We stood out like sore thumbs!

It was a great trip and it went way too fast!!! So, yesterday I took down all of the Christmas decorations and I thought I'd show you the trees I had made. Sorry about cutting the tops off in the pic! The green is made from satin petals that I singed. I have some great ideas to do more next year...so many possibilities!

Fun project to do while watching football! I hope you had a Merry Christmas and a wonderful New Year! I am going to make a real effort to write on here more this year. It's tough to write when nobody knows about it...conversations with myself I guess! I should start leaving comments to myself..."wow! Those trees are awesome!!! You rock!" LOL!!! Maybe I'll try to get someone else to read TABBO this year! Happy New Year to me!!

This year we decided to have a Christmas Recital for the girls and some friends. We share the same piano teacher and we thought it would be fun to have them each perform their Christmas songs for the parents and friends. We won't be home for Christmas this year so this gave me an excuse to go ahead and decorate anyway! It was so much fun that we think it will become an annual event. I thought I'd share some pics of the house and the party...

We usually put up a tree in the Family room but this year we put it in the Piano room for the recital...

Lots of pics in this post! Since we gave Austin her own room for Christmas LAST year I really felt like I should get it finished before Christmas THIS year! Why do these projects take me so long?!?! Maybe because I change my mind a hundred and one times before I commit? Well, here it is.. I'll start with some of the "before's"...

Initially, we were going use this as a guest room. We painted stripes under the chair-rail (which I never liked) and we really didn't want to have to re-paint. The challenge was trying to find something girly that would work with this green!

Austin practically inhales books, so I wanted her to have a comfortable reading chair to curl up in. I looked EVERYWHERE and finally found this chair at a local consignment store. Husband thought I was crazy!I picked up this bench at HomeGoods. It opens and has a small amount of storage space, perfect for books!

Here they are re-covered...

I found these ceramic medallions at a local drapery supply store. They were plain ceramic, so I painted them and then glued them to wood dowels...really simple!


I LOVE the way the chair came out! I also have a tall reading lamp on its way. NO, I didn't re-do this chair by myself! I wish I was that talented!

The fabric I used was Annie Selke Home. I love the color combinations and the large flower print on the chair and windows seems to tone down the stripes. I've been wanting to do one of these button pillows for a long time! I think it turned out cute and I really like the pink on blue.

This is just a Target lamp that I covered. I cut out the flowers and sewed them together, then used ModPodge to attach them to the shade. I put a pink ribbon around the top to cover those threads.

I went with a plain, cream duvet from The Company Store and then added the pink pom-pom trim down the sides. I'll probably add a dust ruffle and I'm still hunting for a nightstand.

Love, love the Amy Butler gumdrop pillow! So cute and so easy to make! I also covered a couple of canvas's with corkboard and fabric but somehow didn't get a picture of those. All in all I think it turned out cute. Husband hung the letters over the bed without asking me how I wanted them and since he was nice enough to do it, I guess I shouldn't complain. I would have done it differently, of course, but we can live with it! Austin loves her new room and I'm just happy to have it done (mostly!)!

I've been selling a LOT of jammies in the shop which is keeping me very busy. Now for the Holidays! Can't wait to get started! Have a nice day! Stephanie

So, I've been pretty productive since my last post. I hired my first "employee". A lovely lady from my church named Jody. She is a professional seamstress as well as an educator. Jody is retiring from Cinci Public in January and looking for something to supplement her income...a perfect match for Tabbo! Jody will start next week! I also had a great meeting with a tshirt wholesale company here in Cincinnati. They manufacture an incredibly soft tshirt that will be perfect for our pj orders. So exciting!!

Speaking of pj orders...here are a couple I finished up last night...

Starting the Biz...

I've said for a long time that I would really get focused on TabboDesign when all of my babies started school. Well....off they went! So sad! I miss my little guy being my shadow! But now it's time to get to work! I thought I'd post some of the things I worked on over the Summer. I didn't get too much done because I wanted to soak in as much time as I could with this little gang of mine! So here are some of my projects...

Sis Boom Volleyball!

Probably my favorite fabric designer out there is Jennifer Paganelli from Sis Boom. I ordered several yards of her new Poodle line from QuiltHome just before vacation and made a bunch of skirts for my girls and the friends we were meeting in Tennessee. I loved putting these together because with Sis Boom, anything goes!

Step-stool custom order

A friend of mine asked me to do a step-stool for her newly born niece. When she told me that the nursery was "pink and purple jungle theme" I was a little stumped. Then I remembered the great Valori Wells jungle print I had ordered from QuiltHome.com! I was going to do some jammies with it but it turned out perfect for this gift!

I'm on a scarf thing lately. I thought it would be a good way to de-stash. Now I can't stop...

Periwinkle jersey knit is super long. So many options!

I'm not choking, just leaning back a little!

This brown is also a jersey knit that is super soft! It's actually more of a circle scarf or a cowl collar. I'm not crazy about all of the wrapping and unwrapping of a long scarf. This is much easier! I still use a couple of layers so it looks like a scarf but it actually just goes over your head.

Here's one in a cream knit. The ruffle is on both sides so that it shows when folded over.

I took some coral jersey knit that I bought in NYC last year and made it into a long scarf with braided ends. I love this one...easy,,casual, burst of color. Great with jeans and a turtleneck.

This one was made from a Minky charm pack that I picked up in Waynesville. I made it for the girls but my sister wanted it for her God-daughter, so I appliqued a minky "H" on it for her. She was willing to pay, so ... sorry girls!
I know...cute, soft, comfy, what young girl wouldn't want one? My girls had so much fun playing with these fabric squares! I wish I would have bought more.

Finished?

Before we could start on Austin's room, I wanted to get Taylor and Bradlee finished. I don't have any pictures of the room with three beds, but it was cute! Now, it's even cuter! They each have their own space with a dresser and a desk. It's much easier to keep clean when everything has it's place.
Notice the gray "pillow" on Taylor's bed? That's Boomer.
This is Taylor's end of the room. The guitar fabric covers cork boards on the brown wall.

This is Bradlee's end. I'm not finished with that blue wall yet. I'm thinking some really big blown up pictures in bright frames might be good.

I did the lampshade to match the euro-shams that I made. I went back and forth with the table. I decoupaged it with fabric using JCaroline's technique.

Austin really thought I was giving her a box with miniature furniture for Christmas. I wrapped up some towels, some sheets, hangers, drawer liners, etc. She was so confused! Then she opened a box full of purple fabrics and I told her she could start picking things out for her actual new room! Talk about excited! It's going to be a challenge because the room was just painted green and we're going to have to work with that color. I'll post the progress as we go.

No Pink!

When Bradlee started Kindergarten (about a year and a half ago), we told her that she could move out of Bo's room and in with the girls. We made the older girls room into the guest room and the guest room was to be the new "girls only" room. They all agreed they wanted a bright room that wasn't pink! So, I picked out these fabrics... and we chose this paint color... with one chocolate brown wall... The end result was really great and everyone has been happy with the arrangement. This Fall though, things started getting a little crowded. Three girls can accumulate a lot of stuff! We didn't really use the guest room as much as we thought we might have and the girls were on top of each other. As the oldest, Austin was always a temporary boarder in the room until we felt she was ready for her own room. I wanted them to learn to share and to respect each others things. I feel very strongly that sisters should share a room as children to help learn these lessons. I think that being in this room together for this time has been invaluable in developing their relationships with each other. But it was time for Austin to move in to her own room and let Taylor and Bradlee have their own space. So, this is what Austin got for Christmas... Her own room! More to come...

Christmas crafts

I love that my kids are creative and old enough now to make their own crafts with me. We started doing Christmas crafts last year and I plan to make it a tradition, like decorating Christmas cookies! Last year we made "trees" from styrofoam and scraps from my workroom...anything green and red we could find was used. It was a great way to let their individual styles take shape! Also, a test of Mommy's patience and efforts to be "hands off" with crafts! I think they're cute and they were so excited to get them back out this year! This year for our Christmas craft, we made tulle wreaths. I had planned to make one with them, but ended up having to help each girl finish theirs. Next time, definitely use smaller wreaths! All in all, a good project for young girls. This is Austin's...Taylor mixed the red and green tulle...the pictures really don't do it justice. It's beautiful! We decided to keep Bradlee's simple and wrapped the wreath before we made little candy-like flowers. This was a time-consuming project but the end result was really worth it! I hope everyone had a great Holiday season! Happy 2010!

Advent calendar

My favorite homemade craft is our stocking advent calendar. Each stocking gets a small treat, a candy cane, and a personalized note/coupon/certificate. I think the girls like it so much because they were a part of making it! They each helped cut out the felt stockings and stitch them together.

Sophie Tunics

I bribed the girls with these...(Target boots!)to get them to model the Sophie tunics...but the pics all came out blurry! Sorry about the quality! I used the flash in the first pic and turned it off for the second but neither one came out clear. I love the blue corduroy in the dress length. I think I'll do more of these. It looks so comfortable! All three girls loved them, although Taylor (in the black) thought that hers was a little stiff. The pink corduroy on the contrast was a softer, lighter weight than the thicker black. I should have made the black the contrast instead. I'm hoping it will soften after a few washes. And of course, we couldn't leave the little man out...I think it's time to make something for him!

That means someone actually reads this! QuiltHome.com picked ME as the Link of the Week! Yea!! $20 gift certificate online! QuiltHome is my absolute favorite online fabric store. And believe me, I have tried a lot of them!! I am lucky enough to live within driving distance of The Fabric Shack, which is a great store in Waynesville, OH. but it's still about 45 min. away. so I don't get there very often. I find that ordering online is much easier. There's also something about getting that package in the mail! I have had such great service from QuiltHome, that I rarely buy from anyone else now. Service is a big issue to me (probably from my Flight Attendant days!) and when I find a business that stands out I will always go back. The service from Quilt Home is by far, the best. So, thank you to the ladies there for picking me as the Link of the Week and I will be ordering again soon! I finished some Sophie Tunics but I had trouble getting these ladies to model. These are my girls. They like my clothes but don't always want to try them on for pictures. Imagine that! So I'll give you a sneak peek at the tunics and them I'll bribe them with something after school today to make them cooperate! The blue is a really soft corduroy with my new Sis Boom from QuiltHome.com, the black is corduroy, but not very soft. I don't think I'll use it again. The pink is like a faux suede or something. Great fabric for a tunic. I bought the Patricia Tunic pattern for myself and hope to get it started today. Hopefully, I'll have more pictures soon.And these are the flannels from QuiltHome that will soon become jammies! Thanks again to QuiltHome and thanks for checking in!

More jeans...

No school today...teacher conferences. That means, no sewing either. I haven't been able to do much sewing this week at all. Although, I did whip up a pretty cool Saint Therese costume for Taylor's Saint report. I sewed black fabric to one my son's knit hats and then we flipped the fabric up and over the hat so that it hung like a nun's habit. Turned out great! Last night/this morning I managed to finish these for a sweet young girl named Lauren. This fabric (Valori Wells Sole) is perfect for jeans appliques. Lots of pattern and color. Back view... Sophie tunic

I've been wanting to try the Sophie Tunic from Sis Boom (the amazing Jennifer Paganelli) and I finally got around to it. I tried it out with this Michael Miller fabric and made a few modifications...All in all pleased because it was so easy to put together. Austin was home today with a stomach ache so I forced her to try it on! I added the cuffs on the sleeves and they are a little long on her. Fortunately, the Mom who ordered the jeans saw this coming together and bought it! It still seems a little Summery to me. I'm going to try it again in a corduroy to make it more Fall-like. Austin likes it but I'm not convinced she would wear it. Ten is a tough age for clothes. Maybe I'll order the Ladies version and make it for myself! Here's as far as I got with belts the other day... P90X has been paying off so I can actually wear belts again!! Yea for me!

Rainy Friday

Jeans order complete! These were tough because usually when a client brings their jeans, they are plain jeans. This client brought these Gap jeans...Cute, but hard to match with a fabric. I wanted to pull the orange and the blue, but there is also gold thread in there that is hard to see in this picture. She wanted her initial, so this is what I did... It's hard to see but I used gold embroidery thread over the stems of the light blue flowers to tie in to the gold on the back pockets. She also needed these jeans to be a little longer, so I added this cuff and covered the back pockets.Luckily, they fit my girls and I was able to convince them to put them on for a pic... Of course, they wanted to keep them even though neither name starts with an "H"... I got this pretty package in the mail and I'm playing around with them today. A hundred things I should be working on besides belts, trust me. But they're so cute!

Okay, blogging takes a lot more time than I thought it would. I need to get the picture upload to go faster. This was yesterday's post but somehow didn't publish. Warning...lots of pics!! I finally finished the baby gift orders this morning that should have been completed last week. The computer problem interfered with the monogramming software so it all had to be re-loaded. I'm happy with how they all turned out, though.These are my exclusive wipe and diaper clutches. Everybody's "go to" gift for new Mom's. I've been selling these for a couple of years now and have done pretty well with them. I love the Valori Wells fabric on this one for Carter. Embroidering the names on them just sets them apart from the usual holders. I use fusible fleece for the facing and an elastic strap for the closure. This way the clutch can expand as your diaper size grows. This is from Lila Tueller's Santorini fabric line. And the last is Tina Givens (I adore her fabrics!) I also like that they can be used after the diaper stage. I keep one in my glove box for emergency items...like extra sunglasses, tampons, lipstick...you know, emergency stuff! The next set I did for one of our old babysitters who is now a Mom herself! Hard to believe! I had this great hot pink tulle with threads through it that matched some pink satin in my stash. I made it into an overlay skirt with a big bow on the back. I found a long sleeve onesie with a ruffle collar and cuffs but it had "Guess" embroidered on it in gold letters. Fixed that with a pretty satin and tulle ruffled flower right over the top of it! That's the back of the skirt. I wanted to do a sash from the satin with a big bow but didn't have enough, so I used the tulle. It's kind of hard to see. This gift is coming from three people, so she is getting the outfit, the bag and the diaper clutch. The bag has lots of pockets inside (don't worry, I'll fix that lining!) Pink and brown is probably my favorite combination. Now I'm back to work on another custom jeans order...hopefully have pics tomorrow!

October is birthday month at my house. My second daughter, Taylor, turned 9 on the 4th, and yesterday was Bradlee's birthday...she is 7! She's modeling an outfit I did for a client this Summer. Love this Amy Butler!

I bought three of these at Sam's the other day for $2.50 each. Then I did this to one of them... And turned it into this... The pictures make it look more pink, but it is red. See my helper back there? That's Boomer.

Not just clothes...

I actually started this business with furniture and it grew into clothing. This is a custom chair I did in the Spring. Inspired by JCaroline...one of the "bloggers I'd love to meet"! I embroidered her name onto Kaffe Fassett fabric and decoupaged it onto the chair. I'm actually working on another one of these right now. Decoupaging fabric onto furniture is becoming a bit of an obsession with me!

This is a custom jeans order I did this wknd. I've been doing a lot of these initial jeans lately. They make great birthday gifts for friends! I LOVE these Amy Butler fabrics in the Fall! I had actually planned to use these for a pair of jeans for myself...but they went to one of my favorite cutomers. Happy Birthday, Avery!!

My model/daughter wasn't too happy about selling a perfectly good pair of jeans that fit AND had her own initial on them!

I'm not sure of the exact names of the fabrics in the previous post but I used Moda for the first outfit (with the halter); I believe that is Michael Miller next; Valori Wells; and then Anna Griffin.

Okay, so the new blog is slow-going. Someone cut the line out at the street so we were computerless for a few days...painful! Then I spent a few days trying to figure out how to download pictures to my kitchen computer, to no avail. It's going to be a pretty boring blog if I can't put any pics on it!

So, I thought I'd just post a few older projects that I've done. I'm always working on different things but my favorite is probably the skirts. So here are a few I've done.

Alan Jackson summed it up so well..."where were you when the world stopped turning?". I know I'm supposed to write about something creative but this day and all that it represents is something we have to recognize. Never Forget. I never will. I was a Flight Attendant on that day and my place of work, as I knew it, was changed forever. God Bless all of the victims. Particularly, the flight crews.
